POSTDOC POSITION IN STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY & PROTEIN DESIGN

We are seeking for a highly motivated scientist for a postdoctoral position in structural biology and protein design at Loschmidt Laboratories, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. We conduct research in enzymology and protein engineering to fight acute stroke, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

ISIDORe project approved for funding

On 22 July 2021, the EC announced that 11 projects were short-listed for funding, with total funding of €120 million. The 11 projects involve 312 research teams from 40 countries in Europe and beyond, which are addressing the emergency request to tackle the most complex societal problems.

CIISB graded as excellent in the international peer-review assessment of Large Research Infrastructures of the Czech Republic 2021

On Monday, July 19, 2021, Masaryk university, as a coordinator of the Czech Infrastructure for Integrative Structural Biology (CIISB), received results of the consensus report of the international assessment committee. CIISB performance was evaluated using 13 evaluation and monitoring criteria with the overall grade 5 – excellent.

New timsToF in CMS

New mass spectrometer timsToF Pro was installed in November 2020 in the Structural mass spectrometry core facility in BioCev and is now fully in operation. The mass spectrometer will be used mostly for shotgun proteomics, hydrogen-deuterium exchange and covalent labelling experiments, and native mass spectrometry with ion mobility separation.

Cryo-EM atomic resolution studies now published in Nature

As we have reported already on June 1, 2020, two studies reported in preliminary published manuscripts on bioRxives.org showed that single particle cryo-EM data can be now resolved to 1.20Å or 1.25Å resolution, respectively. The groups of Sjors H.W. Scheres (LMB-MRC, Cambridge) and Holger Stark (MPI Göttingen) had for the first time shown that atomic resolution is attainable by single particle cryo-EM. Now, in November 2020, both studies appeared back-to-back in Nature.
