Practical Protein Crystallization and Diffraction Course 2025

Join our practical course Protein Crystallization and Diffraction on November 3–4, 2025, hosted at the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (BIOCEV, Vestec). The course offers both lectures and hands-on training in protein crystallization methods and diffraction experiments, with a maximum of 10 participants for practical sessions.

Protein Production Hands-On Workshop

We would like to invite you and/or your students to participate in the Protein Production Hands-On Workshop held in the Centre of Molecular Structure (CMS) on December 2 – 4, 2025. This three-day course offers both foundational and practical training in recombinant protein production. Participants will gain hands-on experience across the entire workflow – from cell transformation, recombinant protein expression and purification to final sample concentration and purity validation.

We are looking for an enthusiast to join our team focused on management of biophysical data within the European project MOSBRI and the National Repository Platform.

We offer work connected to development of data management infrastructure for biophysical data in the frame of an international project at the Institute of Biotechnology in the BIOCEV Centre of Excellence.

New services in Protein production core facility

We are pleased to announce the expansion of our Protein Production Core Facility with the introduction of eukaryotic protein production. In addition to prokaryotic expression in E. coli, we now offer protein production in human embryonic kidney cells (HEK) and Sf9 insect cells.

New instrumentation in Proteomics core facility

In March, two new high resolution mass spectrometers were installed in our core facility thanks to CIISB project (CZ.02.01.01/00/23_015/0008175). First we upgraded our timsTOF Pro 2 instrument to timsTOF HT improving our performance in whole proteome analyses with faster scanning speed and a wider dynamic range. In second, Ultra 2 mass spectrometer was installed. This timsTOF instrument opens doors to deeper analysis of samples with limited amount of input material due to its ultimate sensitivity.

Launch of database for raw molecular biophysics data - MBDB

We have launched a public database where you can store your raw data with rich annotation of samples and conditions of measurements.

The Molecular Biophysics Database currently accepts depositions of raw measurement files from MST, BLI, SPR and ITC.

We invite you to deposit your data, make it findable, searchable and reusable at https://mbdb-data.org/

MBDB has been developed within the EU project MOSBRI by a team of developers mainly from the Institute of Biotechnology and CESNET. Its development continues and we welcome comments and suggestions at mbdb@ibt.cas.cz.
