Organization changes of CIISB at the Institute of Biotechnology

The CIISB facilities at IBT have been undergoing the following organizational changes.

Dr. Jan Dohnálek stepped down from the position of the head of the Centre of Molecular Structure. Resulting from an open selection process a new head of CMS was appointed and took office in March 2026 – Dr. Maroš Huličiak. Dr. Jan Dohnálek stays in his roles of the CIISB organization structure.

The internal organization of CMS is changing to better reflect the needs in the field and follow the current trends. The facilities of Crystallization of Proteins and Nucleic Acids and Diffraction Techniques have been merged into one facility called Crystallization and Diffraction. The CMS continues to provide its services corresponding to the previous portfolio.

Vladimír Sklenář Scholarship 2026

To honor the memory of Prof. Vladimír Sklenář, an internationally renowned scientist and an important organizer of scientific activities in the Czech Republic, CEITEC Masaryk University awards the Vladimír Sklenář Scholarship. The scholarship is intended for students of doctoral studies at universities in the Czech and Slovak Republics working with NMR spectroscopy and can be used to cover the costs related to their studies. The intention is to improve the conditions for the awardee’s personal and career development.

The scholarship in the amount of CZK 100,000, which may be taxable according to the practice of the institution and/or the tax regulations of the beneficiary's country, is sponsored by Měřicí technika Morava. The scholarship will be awarded to one person per year.

The application deadline for the 2026 scholarship is February 28, 2026.

Biophysicist for the core facility of Centre of Molecular Structure

We are seeking a molecular biophysicist to join the Centre of Molecular Structure (CMS), part of the Czech Infrastructure for Integrative Structural Biology. The Centre also provides research services within Instruct-ERIC, the European infrastructure for structural biology. It brings together several core facilities, providing a comprehensive approach to studying the three-dimensional structure, function, and biophysical properties of biological molecules.

New CIISB Service for Interpretation of Structural Flexibility and Dynamics Using Molecular-Dynamics Simulations

We are introducing Computer simulations for structural data interpretation as a new offering among CIISB’s service portfolio. The new service will run in pilot mode during 2026-2027 to evaluate the user interest and optimize the service offering in accordance with the user community needs.

HeliX+ Biosensor instrument (BRUKER) was purchased to the Biophysical Techniques Facility of CMS

HeliX⁺ Biosensor instrument from BRUKER was purchased to the Biophysical Techniques Facility of Centre of Molecular Structure. It enables the study of molecular interactions, including kinetics, affinity and avidity and reveals conformational changes induced by analyte binding or buffer conditions with switchSENSE analysis. This DNA-lever based technology is particularly advantageous for molecules interacting with modifying oligonucleotides.
