Biophysicist for the core facility of Centre of Molecular Structure

About the role

We are seeking a molecular biophysicist to join the Centre of Molecular Structure (CMS), part of the Czech Infrastructure for Integrative Structural Biology. The Centre also provides research services within Instruct-ERIC, the European infrastructure for structural biology. It brings together several core facilities, providing a comprehensive approach to studying the three-dimensional structure, function, and biophysical properties of biological molecules.

In this role, you will be involved in the operation and maintenance of instruments at the Biophysical technique facility. Your duties will include communication with users, experiment setup and conduction, and data analysis.

You will also participate in administrative tasks, such as managing supplies and service orders, maintaining records of facility users, projects, and consumables, as well as assisting with user training and hands-on workshops.

Key Responsibilities

• Operation and maintenance: Regular operation and maintenance of instruments at the Biophysical technique facility; monitoring of instrument performance, identification and troubleshooting of technical issues, and coordination of service or repairs when necessary
• Users’ projects admin: Maintaining accurate records of user projects, instrument usage and stocks of consumables
• Users’ project support: Contribution to the development and optimization of experiment to improve measurement quality and reproducibility. Assisting users with instrument setup, providing guidance on proper operation and data acquisition, support during measurements and data analysis.
• Training activities: Conducting of hands-on workshops and training of users

Desired skills and experience

• Education: University education in biophysics, physics, biochemistry, chemistry, or a relevant field
• Research experience: Hands-on experience with several biophysical techniques used for the characterization of conformation, stability and interactions of biomolecules, available at the Biophysical techniques’ facility of CMS
• Teamwork: Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team
• Language proficiency: English at least at B2 level in speaking, reading, and writing; Czech – some knowledge is an advantage

• Motivated to learn and continuously develop professional skills: Open to learning new methods and adapt to new research directions and technologies
• Proactive and responsible approach: Ability to work independently and complete tasks with accuracy and reliability
• Genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for users’ projects: Sincere interest in understanding users’ scientific goals and enthusiasm for contributing to their research projects
