Core Facility Nanobiotechnology: Where we are and where to go next…
We invite you to the webinar about CF Nanobiotechnology.
Prague, 16 September 2026 – To mark the launch of projects supported under the Second Swiss Contribution to selected EU Member States (the ‘Swiss Contribution’), a launch conference for the Czech-Swiss Research Infrastructure Initiative was held on 16 September 2026 in the Baroque refectory of the Dominican Monastery in Prague. The conference not only enabled grant recipients to present their projects and planned activities, but, thanks to the participation of representatives from Czech and Swiss institutions, it also provided an opportunity to forge new contacts, exchange experiences and strengthen mutual cooperation. The Czech-Swiss Research Infrastructure Initiative was launched in April 2025. Its aim is to strengthen Czech research infrastructures and Czech science. The collaboration with leading institutions in Switzerland is playing a key role in the programme. A total of nine projects, running from 2026 to the end of 2028, received funding under the two calls for proposals. Director General of the Higher Education, Science and Research Section, Mrs. Dana Bilíková „Czech-Swiss Research Infrastructure Initiative is much more than a funding programme supporting scientific development. It is an investment in people, knowledge and long-term partnerships. At the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, we strongly believe that international cooperation is one of the key drivers of scientific progress. Research today is inherently international. The most significant discoveries and innovations emerge where excellent people, unique facilities and diverse perspectives come together. This programme provides exactly such an opportunity,“ said Mrs. Dana Bilíková, Director General of the Higher Education, Science and Research Section, while opening the event. The funded projects cover a wide range of fields, from environmental, biological and medical sciences, through the social sciences and humanities, to laser technologies, which form the basis for new approaches in medicine and industry. H.E. Urs Beat Bucher, Swiss Ambassador to the Czech Republic „Today´s event is much more than to start a series of research projects. It is about partnership between Switzerland and the Czech Republic that is built on trust, shared values and common belief that investment in knowledge is one of the most powerful investments a society can make. What I personally find particularly inspiring is that these projects are not only about equipment, data platforms, laboratories and technologies, it´s about people. They are about researcher developing new method that one day may improve our lives. They are about a student who may discover a lifelong passion for science. They are also about institutions that choose collaboration over competition,“ said the Swiss Ambassador, Urs Beat Bucher, in his opening address. The Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) is pleased to announce the opening of the 9th ELI User Call on 15 September 2026. Researchers worldwide are invited to submit proposals for experiments accessing ELI’s state-of-the-art instruments and research capabilities. Proposal Submission Deadline: 20 October 2026, 12:00 (noon) CEST Apply Here All submitted proposals will undergo a feasibility assessment and an international peer-review process, and the planned experimental period for submissions awarded is May-October 2027. The 9th Call expands ELI’s User Programme with new experimental capabilities: * Petawatt driven Surface High-Harmonics Generation Beamline (SHHG-PW) at the ELI ALPS Facility, offered as an experimental platform, enables investigations on relativistic plasma mirrors, and secondary emissions from over-dense plasmas. * P3 experimental platform, driven by the L4f ATON multi-petawatt, kilojoule-class laser at the ELI Beamlines Facility, provides a new environment for experiments exploring extreme light-matter interactions and related high-field phenomena. The complete offer of available equipment and experimental opportunities is available on the ELI User Portal, together with guidelines for Users to navigate the proposal submission site (User Office System). IMPORTANT NOTE * Terms and Conditions of Access (TCA) have been updated. Acceptance of the TCA is required for proposal submission and access to the ELI Facilities. * Review instrument-specific information carefully. Beamtime periods and operating conditions vary between instruments. Be prepared to carry out your experiment during the beamtime period allocated by ELI. Researchers are strongly encouraged to contact the relevant instrument scientists as early as possible to discuss the feasibility of their experimental concepts, technical requirements and available capabilities. Early engagement gives applicants more time to develop a strong and well-founded proposal. For questions, contact the ELI User Office at user-office@eli-laser.eu. Czech university students have a bigger chance to be selected to the student programmes of CERN. This has been made possible by the Agreement between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) and CERN. Within the framework of the programmes, students of Czech universities in technical fields of Doctoral, Master and Bachelor studies can apply for studentship in the areas such as applied physics, IT, mechanical and civil engineering, electronics, robotics, mathematics, etc. The programmes are opened also for “administrative” students in the fields of law, finance, logistics, translation, HR, etc. Doctoral Student Programme allows the students to work on their Ph.D. thesis in CERN. The students can apply for a studentship in fields such as applied physics, IT, mechanical and civil engineering, electronics, robotics, mathematics, etc. The length of the stay at CERN is between 6 and 36 months. Technical Student Programme is aimed at Bachelor and Master Degree students. The students can apply for a studentship in fields such as applied physics, IT, mechanical and civil engineering, electronics, robotics, mathematics, etc. The duration of the internship is from 4 to 12 months. About 120 students are selected for the programme every year. Administrative Student Programme is aimed at undergraduate students specializing in administration (fields as law, finance, HR, translation, logistics, etc.) to spend a training period of 2 to 12 months during the course of their studies (Bachelor or Master) The current deadline for applying for CERN student programmes is 16th October 2026. Graduates of Czech universities and secondary schools can apply to CERN Graduate Programmes. The detailed information is available on the CERN website (links above) or contact Mr Ondřej Novák, Department of Research and Development of the MEYS at ondrej.novak@msmt.gov.cz. An allowance of about 3 486 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax) is provided by CERN to selected students. (Image: CERN)
